Areas of Expertise
Anxiety and Stress Management
Mind racing, restlessness, constant worry or planning for the worst case scenario, a nagging feeling of uncertainty, teetering on the edge of burnout. There is always something requiring your focus, it’s name is Fear. It can pull us off balance, off our path.
Many of our coping mechanisms were habitualized and are no longer effective. We will look at these with compassion, address the underlying issues, and develop new strategies aligned with your values and goals.
College Students and Young Adults
Expectations about how college life will be often does not mesh with the reality of the experience... especially now during Covid.
Academic stress, struggles with finding the right group of friends, roommate conflicts, substance use issues, dealing with procrastination, preparing for an independent future once you graduate... are just some of the issues that tend to surprise students with their intensity.

With over 7 years of experience supporting students in University settings, I can help you navigate these challenges.

Relationships
Relationships often represent the area of greatest personal challenge. We long for intimacy and connection, but are often hindered by the wounds and defenses we've accumulated over time.

Healing what wounds are there is critical, for then we can feel safe to lower our protective defenses and create more effective ways of relating.
Life Transitions
Sometimes we get glimpses of feeling settled and secure, but often life feels full of transitions big and small. No matter how predictable or beneficial your recent change might have been, adjustment can stretch us thin.

Life changes due to covid, getting divorced, starting a new job, grieving a loss, getting married, coming out... All these represent opportunities to re-engage and align with our deepest values and move past the barriers currently in the way of creating the life we want for ourselves.
Trauma
I often hear "this shouldn't be bothering me so much" and "I should be over this by now." Trauma comes in many forms: bullying, abusive parents/partners, chaotic family systems, sexual assaults, accidents, neglect, humiliations, intense break-ups...
I am practiced with EMDR and other treatments to address trauma and heal the wounds so you can be free to live your life in greater peace.
Depression
Hopelessness or disappointment, feeling a lack of purpose, struggling to enjoy things that used to bring happiness, a generalized sadness, or feeling stuck in a rut. Is life supposed to feel this hard.

Breaking out of depression can be especially difficult because it robs us of the very energy we need to do so. The fact that you are wanting to engge in counseling is a step towards breaking that pattern and gaining an ally in your efforts.
